"Going To Market"
Original Wood Block Print
With Watercolor Embellishment
By Late 1800-Early 1900's American Artist
Helen Hyde
Helen Hyde (1868-1919) was an American etcher and engraver.
She was born at Lima, N.Y., graduated from the Wellesley School, Philadelphia, and studied art at the San Francisco Art Institute under Emil Carlsen, in Berlin under Frank Skarbina, in Paris under Raphael Collin, and in Tokyo under Kano Tomonobu.
She is noted for her Asian and Ethnic Woodcuts, watercolors, and etchings.
Complete series of her work are to be found in the Congressional Library, Washington; and examples are in the New York Public Library and the San Francisco Art Museum.
Note that the print is adhered to artboard. I found it in a frame that was mounted and sealed.
It originated from "The Print Room" in San Francisco
I will include the frame to protect at shipping.
It is signed by the artist and has the number 28 in the corner of the piece
at the bottom is the title, "Going To Market" and an H1749.
It measures eleven inches by four and a half inches.
The frame measures approx. 10"x18"
The vellum is in Fair to Good Condition, it is adhered with adhesive and some mounting tape on edges of print. Please see pictures. Additional pictures available on request.
I am not an art dealer...I was an art major in college and this caught my eye at an estate sale. It needs a good home.
My local art museum already has one on file and so I'm a little concerned about proper care for a piece of American Art History...
